FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hurd Amps up Focus on Energy Efficiency
Window and door manufacturer offers numerous options to qualify for tax credit savings
Medford, WI – January 19, 2010 – Hurd Windows and Doors’ mission is to increase comfort and energy efficiency through its products. For people who act soon, Hurd products can also help homeowners save on their tax bills. A variety of Hurd products qualify for up to $1,500 dollars in tax credits, including the award-winning, mid-priced H3™ line with the company’s new Low-E glazing.
Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, homeowners can receive federal tax credits for qualified energy-efficient improvements, including new windows and doors. The tax credits are for 30 percent of the cost of eligible products up to a limit of $1,500. Not all Energy Star labeled windows and doors qualify for the tax credit. Qualifying products must have a U-Factor of 0.30 or lower and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower. This is equal to an R-value of 3.3 or higher.
As a long-standing Energy Star® partner, Hurd offers glazing options that meet the most stringent requirements for energy efficiency. Hurd's ComfortGlaze™ system, in particular, offers new performance glazing options to fit homes in any part of the country. Whether the region’s biggest weather challenge is caused by blistering heat or sub-zero cold, Hurd has the perfect glass for a new home or a home remodeling project. The ComfortGlaze options make it easy to choose the unique performance characteristics that will make any individual home more comfortable and more efficient - today and for years to come.
Hurd has a wide selection of products available when it comes to triple pane insulating glass. The Energy Saver Plus triple pane windows, for example, are built with energy savings in mind by offering superior insulation, aluminum cladding for durability, and a special composite frame material that reduces thermal transfer. It achieves high marks for its NFRC insulating values. Plus, the composite components resist rot and deterioration.
Hurd offers a unique option for Low-E insulated glass. Low-E 366 insulated glass has an unprecedented triple layer of silver that delivers an ideal balance of energy savings, solar control, UV protection and high visibility. Low-E 366 features Neat®, an advanced, ultra-smooth coating that actually uses the sun’s UV rays to loosen dirt so water can rinse it away almost spotlessly,

and Preserve®, a protective film designed to protect the glass during installation. The glass in both of these window styles block 95 percent of UV rays and achieves ideal low U-factor results, easily qualifying several Hurd products for federal tax credits.
Additionally, Hurd offers the ultimate in protection for a home with ClimaGuard SPF™. This process blocks 99.9 percent of UV rays and reduces a home’s solar heat gain. ClimaGuard SPF not only protects interiors and furnishing from fading, its recommendation by the Skin Cancer Foundation means it can protect people and pets, too. ClimaGuard SPF is available on Low-E, Climate Control and Super Sun Blocker glass.
“People who are interested in making their home more efficient and comfortable can count on Hurd products to accomplish that task,” says Hurd Vice President of Marketing Joe Herman. “They can pay you back in two ways. First, with a savings of 30 percent with the credit up to $1,500, and again with perpetual energy savings in the years to come. Now is definitely the time to invest in new windows.”
