Hurd Makes Bold Claim:
CoreGuard is Best Wood Protection in the Industry

After two years on the market, Hurd’s exclusive technology
wins overwhelming acceptance and success.

Medford, WI – January 22, 2013 – Hurd Windows and Doors is making a bold claim at this year’s International Builders Show: CoreGuardTM is the best wood protection treatment in the window industry. And the industry appears to agree with them. CoreGuard, which was introduced in 2007, has been extensively recognized for its superior protection of wood windows – because of the exclusive technology that penetrates the entire cross section of the window.

“True to its name, CoreGuard goes to the very core of the window when needed.  That’s what differentiates it from all other wood window treatments,” said Vice President of Products and Services Stuart Brown. In fact, CoreGuard protected-wood is said to rival the rot-proof qualities of vinyl and the insect-proof qualities of aluminum, while being warmer than both and presenting the overall aesthetic that is unique to wood.

According to Brown, CoreGuard contains three active fungicides, an insecticide, plus water repellents to provide envelope-protection against pests and rotting. “Only CoreGuard has a final, proprietary ingredient that goes completely through the wood when needed for the ultimate in protection,” he said. “What’s more, CoreGuard’s water repellent properties give Hurd windows superior dimensional stability against warping and swelling. And, because of Hurd’s longstanding commitment to the sustainability, patented CoreGuard contains USDA approved naturally organic fungicides, so it’s environmentally-friendly.”

Trisha Egge, co-owner of Materials Design Hawaii, concurs with Hurd’s bold claim.  She said, “We’ve been selling Hurd products for a number of years, and have never had a single problem with wood rot or insects. We are in a climate that is highly prone to these concerns, so it’s top-of-mind with our customers. Knowing that Hurd’s wood protection system is a successful formula -- that goes all the way to the core vs. just touching the surface -- is a big deal to our customers. CoreGuard has proven to be a solution to a very real problem.  In short, it helps close the sale.

As previously reported, the efficacy of CoreGuard was truly put to the test in the wilds of a Hawaiian rainforest before it was introduced to the market. To push the limits of potential water damage, an independent testing organization took sections of CoreGuard-treated windows, broke the finish seal over the joints, then tilted them to trap rain. After constant exposure to downpours and tropical sun -- the equivalent of a decade or even multiple decades installed on a home in the continental U.S. dependent on its location -- the elements were no match for CoreGuard-treated wood.

Brown noted that Hurd is so confident in the durability of CoreGuard-protection that all Hurd wood windows come with a lifetime limited warranty for residential use. That’s confidence that comes with 90 plus years of experience not to mention some extensive rainforest field testing. For copies of the CoreGuard brochure, e-mail or call 800-433-4873.
